Cookies and Orange Cream Milkshakes {featuring OREO and Fanta}

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #SpookySnacks #CollectiveBias

Even before having kids I thought that Halloween was one of the most fun holidays - but it has gotten a ton more fun having the little ones around. They are totally in the spirit of this spooky and scary holiday and are bringing so much excitement to our house in anticipation for the big day this upcoming Saturday! The kiddos have been decorating, playing monsters, creating haunting art projects and begging to watch scary movies - this Halloween has taken us by storm and it's been a blast. One of my favorite things we've been doing as a family this ghostly time of year has been whipping up creepy creations in our Spooky Snack Lab {kitchen}! While we have been doing some wicked baking, we've been in need of something to wash down these goulish snacks with. I was inspired to make these Cookies and Orange Cream Milkshakes after hearing that Evette Rios {from the show Recipe Rehab} was creating custom recipes using both Fanta and OREO {exclusively for Walmart}. Not only are these milkshakes perfectly color-themed for this frightening holiday but they're unbelievably delicious for your taste-buds!

Natural Energy with V8 V-Fusion+Energy Drink

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #V8EnergyBoost #CollectiveBias

Although I could do without the heat, I am having a blast this summer! Our family is staying busy with the kids - doing a lot of outdoor activities, in the blazing heat. Whether we are out disc golfing, rockin' the playground at the park, going on a nature hike or just gardening in the backyard it seems that I start to slow down around 3pm. Everyday. It's at that moment, everyday, that a nap crosses my mind. But all you moms out there know the truth about taking a nap - ain't nobody got time for that! So instead I look for some feel-good energy {not an energy drink filled with ingredients my body doesn't need!} that is made with no artificial flavors, colors or preservatives - and no added sugar. At times it can be a struggle to find an energy drink that fits my criteria and that's why I am so excited about V8 V-Fusion® + Energy!

Flavored Milk for Dipping Cookies

Cookies and milk just got better - which I didn't think was possible! Here is a simple DIY tip for making flavored milk, easily customizable to pair with your favorite cookie.

I wasn't trying to improve on the classic cookies and milk, it just kind of happened. I was enjoying my coffee creamer so much the other day that I started thinking about what else I could use it in. I finally came up with the thought of putting a bit of it in milk - and what's the best thing to do with milk? Dip cookies in it of course! This DIY Flavored Milk for Dipping Cookies is a quick solution to jazzing up a simple "cookies and milk" dessert.

Our favorite cookies are Oreos - this is without a doubt. I grabbed a package of Oreos at the store and then checked out the selection of coffee creamers to find a perfect match. As soon as I spotted the Coffee-mate Peppermint Mocha I knew it was going to be an excellent pairing with our favorite cookies. Between all the different cookies and coffees creamers available at the store, the "Flavored Milk and cookie" combinations are countless! {well not really, but who has time for all that?!?}

(side-note: that awesome dipping tool above is the dipr - so much fun for the kiddos!!)

Just like you use liquid coffee creamer for your coffee, add as much or little as you like. Enjoy!

Late Night Baking with 5-hour ENERGY® Shots & a 6-month Supply of 5-hour ENERGY® Shots Giveaway

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and it's advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #CollectiveBias #ThisIsMySecret

Hands down, the best time to be in the kitchen is nighttime. It's cool outside, the house is quiet and there are no little monsters {kids, 4 of them} getting under my feet in the kitchen. It's a time that I can focus on the task {recipe} at hand and relax since there are no worries of being interrupted. It's my time to create recipes for blog posts, do meal prep for the next day, cook food for family gatherings and my favorite - baking for no reason at all. However, there are times when I'm feeling a little zapped at the end of the day and need a bit more energy to get me through - this is where my Late Night Baking with 5-hour ENERGY® Shots comes into play.

Coconut-Cherry Dr Pepper Float

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and it's advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #CollectiveBias #BackyardBash

For more ideas on how to create your own #BackyardBash, check out the tumblr page at www.drpepperbash.com

Nothing is better than getting together with friends and family {most of them anyway} for a backyard bash during the hot grilling season of summer. It feels great to connect with the ones that we love and share quality time together. Now, before you start thinking I am getting all sappy with this post - you just hold on. One thing I've learned about family is this: they can't all agree, all the time. For the most part everyone can be harmonious and still live peaceful together, even through varying points of view. But boy, there is something about the high-rising temperatures that can make even the most accepting and patient person a little on edge. A little irritable, let's say. My secret {and pre-emptive} weapon against these possible heat-crazed situations from arising - serve cold drinks and keep those glasses full!!

To keep my guests cool this upcoming weekend, we will be serving these Coconut-Cherry Dr Pepper Floats. The floats are cold, creamy, sweet and best of all - made at home, with little time and minimal effort. Coconut and cherry are two of my favorite flavors from the summer months and they taste absolutely delightful with Dr Pepper. I mixed the Dr Pepper with coconut cream and grenadine, topped with cherry ice cream and then garnished with toasted coconut and of course, more cherries.

Iced Peanut Butter Cup Latte {how to make iced coffee}

The 4th of July is a huge day at the Hungry Harps house - not only is it the day of our annual Independence Day bash but it's also Mr. Hungry Harps' first day of summer break. {he is a college instructor} Lots of celebrating going on and lots of fun to be had!! One thing that is a total requirement on the 4th is coffee. It is a guarantee that we will be up late on July 3rd getting ready for the festivities and then turning around and waking up at some unholy hour on the 4th - it's all part of our tradition... However, this year even I'm excited to wake up with the sun rising - and it's all because of the most awesome gift I've received in a while. {a gift that will help me quickly learn how to make iced coffee!!}

Here is a clue...

German Chocolate Cake Smoothies {smoothies with almond milk}

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and it's advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #CollectiveBias #SilkAlmondBlends

There is one thing I am sure of: Summers were made for smoothies. Or maybe it's that smoothies were made for summer. Either way, the Hungry Harps house is full of smoothies during this hot season. For the most part we enjoy fruit smoothies with almond milk - after all, summertime means an abundance of fresh fruit and a smoothie is a quick way to get those nutrients to the kiddos. However, sometimes we have to cheat. Like putting the fruit aside and busting out the brownie chunks. Why not? Everyone's gotta live a little. These German Chocolate Cake Smoothies are my newest binge cheat.

Pairing Wine & Spirits with Meat at Save Mart Supermarket #FreshFinds

I am a member of the Collective Bias® Social Fabric® Community. This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper insights study for Collective Bias and their client.

A few months ago I posted about enjoying the Save Mart Supermarket Pick 5 for $25 meat promotion - my family is a pack of meat lovers so the promotion is right up our alley. Well, Save Mart is running another special that my family can certainly put to good use, the Buy 4 Save 10% Mix-and-Match Wine and Spirits sale. I don't know if it's the cooler weather or the buzz of the holidays but we tend to enjoy wine & spirits more often in the Fall and Winter months. Nothing crazy {no chandelier swinging}, just a glass of wine or whiskey with {and maybe after} dinner. It makes me feel a little toasty and takes the edge off the stress of the holidays - plus there are proven health benefits to certain wine & spirits {that doesn't mean to go chug a bottle!! In moderation folks, in moderation}.

I headed to my local Save Mart to take advantage of their Buy 4 Save 10% Mix-and-Match Wine and Spirits sale. It was extremely hard to choose wines & spirits this go round {I know I will be back for more!} as there is a great selection available at Save Mart. What made the selection process a lot easier was the products being organized by type and easy to read sales tags. I was stoked to see that even the items that were on sale were eligible for an additional 10% off with the Mix-and-Match promotion.

I ended up coming home with Gnarly Head Chardonnay, Plungerhead Old Vine Zinfandel, Jim Beam Black and Hornitos Anejo. There was also an awesome surprise at the register when the bottles were placed in this complimentary bottle bag. I was already sold on the promotion and then it got more awesome! This bag will be perfect for taking wine & spirits to holiday parties.

Since Save Mart's Buy 4 Save 10% Mix-and-Match Wine and Spirits sale is running alongside the Pick 5 for $25 meat promotion it seemed fitting to put together a basic list of potential meat pairings for some of our favorite wine & spirits. I think a basic rule when it comes to drinking any wine or spirit is to drink what you like.These are all suggestions based upon what my husband and I like to eat and drink, so they may not work for everybody. It would be great to hear what some of your favorite pairings are when it comes to pairing wine and/or spirits with meat. Enjoy!

Pairing Zindandel with Meat
One of mine and my husband's favorite meat pairing to enjoy with Zinfandel is grilled steak, preferably top sirloin. Top sirloin is a lean cut of beef, which is better to pair with Zinfandel than a fattier cut due to the lower amounts of tannins in the wine. {If you like Rib Eye steaks, a Cabernet Sauvignon would be more of what you are looking for.} I will usually only use salt and pepper, sometimes garlic powder, to season our steaks to be paired with Zinfandel - marinades or a bbq sauce could be used but it is important to not make the meat taste sweeter than the wine to keep an awesome pairing!

Pairing Chardonnay with Meat
When eating shrimp and scallops - Chardonnay is our go-to wine. I like to saute the shrimp and scallops in a butter and oil mixture along with a dash of dried herbs. After removing the seafood from the pan,  I add heavy cream and bit more butter to make a sauce that gets poured over the shrimp and scallops before serving. The sauce is a perfect companion to the buttery tones of Chardonnay. Chicken could also be used in place of the seafood but it doesn't quite make the flavor of the Chardonnay pop out as much.

Pairing Tequila with Meat
This is certainly one of my favorite pairings! We are HUGE lovers of spicy foods {especially Mexican} and that is what goes perfect with Tequila. Although Tequila can be paired with foods that are not from Mexico, it really just feels right to pair the two together. My favorite dish to enjoy with some Tequila {we usually go for Anejo} is spicy pork tacos with a homemade pico de gallo {with extra jalapenos and orange juice!}. The smokiness of chipotle used in the pork is the perfect companion the the tequila's peppery hints.

Pairing Bourbon with Meat
Last, but certainly not least is a pairing for Bourbon. This is my husband's favorite spirit and it just so happens that he loves most of the food that Bourbon can be paired with. Bourbon and BBQ food is a match made in heaven. Bourbon has hints of a caramel or maple flavor that is nicely paired with the sweetness of many bbq sauces and the smokiness of slow cooked food. A rack of ribs {pork or beef} or beef brisket are favorites of ours to enjoy with the fine taste of Bourbon. {Bourbon is also nicely paired with being the one in charge of the BBQ - slow cooking along with some slow sipping!}

Those are some of our favorite wine and spirit pairings, I hope they inspire you to try some of your own that would complement your favorite wine and/or spirits! If you are in need of stocking up for the holidays don't forget about Save Mart's Buy 4 Save 10% Mix-and-Match Wine and Spirits sale - and the awesome bag that is included! {while supplies last} If you are looking for more information on wine or wine pairings with more than just meat, Save Mart's Wine Pairing Guide is a great resource.

#DeliciousPairings - Starbucks Dark French Roast Coffee & The Bakery at Walmart's Turtle Iced Brownies

Ever since we brought the twins home from the hospital I have been obsessed with anything that comes in two. Pairs, couples, duos, combos - they all have my attention now. So, needless to say, when I spotted Delicious Pairings at Walmart, I was intrigued...

Not only did the word "Pairings" catch my eye - but the fact it was associated with coffee caught my entire, undivided attention. Coffee has become one of my favorite indulgences since the twins were born; it is delightfully delicious and it gives me a jump-start when I am feeling a bit tired from nights up with the babies. We seem to always have coffee on hand these days and I must credit it with getting us through some tough mornings.

At Walmart, there were three roast profiles to choose from - blonde, medium and dark. Each roast pairs well with different flavors and there were signs that listed what those were. For example, flavors that pair well with a darker roasted coffee are toasted nuts, caramelized sugar and roasted vegetables. (Vegetables? I had never thought about serving coffee with a meal - but now that I know it's acceptable, I am totally doing it!!)

I was sold on trying a dark roasted coffee. Not only did the flavors on display, Dark French Roast and Dark Cafe Verona, sound delicious but I also wanted to try The Bakery at Walmart's Turtle Iced Brownies- and a dark roast seemed like a definite Delicious Pairing! I decided on the Dark French Roast since I am already a fan of French Roast and trying a darker roasted version sounded perfect! There were only whole beans of coffee at the Delicious Pairings display so we headed over to the coffee aisle to see if the flavor I wanted was available in ground.

There was a couple more selections of Starbuck's dark roasted coffees in the coffee aisle. The selections were Dark French Roast, Dark Espresso Roast, Dark Cafe Verona and Dark Italian Roast. I found the Dark French Roast ground coffee and headed back to the bakery for those Turtle Iced Brownies I had been hearing about.

There were also Fudge Iced Brownies and Cream Cheese Iced Brownies in addition to the Turtle Iced Brownies. I won't lie - they almost all ended up in my cart, but we stuck the ones we came for. The Turtle Iced Brownies have a fudge icing, caramel drizzle and walnut topping - how good does that sound?? I have been dying to try them!

Our Delicious Pairing:
Starbuck's Dark French Roast & The Bakery at Walmart's Turtle Iced Brownies

The pot of coffee was brewing in no time after getting home while I mustered up all my self-restraint to not try the brownie until it was done.

Our coffee pot beeps when it is done brewing a pot of coffee - this time that beep also meant it was time for a brownie! I was excited. After staying up all night with the babies I needed something sweet in my life.

The waiting was worth it. The brownie was better than I thought it would be - soft with creamy icing, the caramel drizzle and walnuts adding the perfect touch. The coffee was awesome - intense and smoky, just as the package promised. The true test was trying these two wonderful products together. I took a bite of brownie along with a swig of coffee and the marriage of flavors was like fireworks in my mouth! I will admit to eating my brownie and drinking my coffee faster than any one person should ever do - but I recommend it to everyone. ;)

As I was drinking my coffee and devouring my brownie, it crossed my mind that it is National Poetry Month and I hadn't written a poem since I was in high school. It sounded like a fun little challenge to write one down right then. I am a little rusty - so hang in there with me...

Inspired by my newborn twin babies and Starbuck's & The Bakery at Walmart's Delicious Pairings, I present my poem to you -

Babies bring joy and babies bring glee
Babies bring need for a lot of coffee
They wake up at midnight for a quick bite to eat
Or sometimes they need a little drive up the street
Whatever it takes to get them asleep
We feel the tiredness starting to creep
They fuss and they fight, not giving in
The start of a new day is soon to begin
As they go to sleep, the sun is coming up
I pour more Starbuck’s into my cup
Enjoying my coffee, I gather my bearings
Starting my day with a #DeliciousPairings

What do you think? Don't be too harsh. ;)

One last thing I want to share is an added bonus to buying Starbuck's coffee to brew at home. Besides the fact that it is much less expensive to brew your own coffee at home - you can get a free tall brewed coffee from Starbuck's by exchanging an empty bag of Starbuck's coffee at one of their stores. How great is that? I can't believe I never knew that before, but now that I do it sure is an incentive to buying their ground coffee at the grocery store!

Pecan-Peach Coffee Smoothie #IcedDelight

I think I may have mentioned before how much we love coffee in our house. It is not unusual for us to go through 2 pots of coffee a day - and if we plan on staying up late, a 3rd may be brewed. How do we not go into caffeine-overload? I have no idea.

The thought crossed my mind the other day about fruit-flavored coffee. Although I have seen fruit-flavored ground coffee, I have not seen any fruit-flavored creamers. Perhaps this is because it would be gross? I don't know, it sounds good to me. You see, I am a self-proclaimed "Coffee Creamer Queen" - I try all the flavors and get completely, ridiculously excited when a new one comes out. The only flavor that my taste buds have scoffed at is Amaretto, everything else is good in my book.

Ok, so back to the fruit-flavored coffee... since the store didn't have a fruit-flavored creamer, I decided to make my own fruity coffee drink. Instead of fresh-brewed coffee, I opted for International Delight's Iced Coffee in Vanilla flavor - I could still get the caffeine that I LOVE so much, without the strong flavor of coffee. I was already thinking of using fresh peaches in my drink creation - but when I saw International Delight's Southern Butter Pecan creamer, I knew it was a match made in coffee heaven! So, I grabbed the Iced Coffee and the Creamer along with some fresh peaches, pecan chips and ice cream and sped went home to make my creation. (Evil genius laugh)

This drink is so easy to make and such an awesome way to start a warm summer day. We sat on our back patio, listened to the birds chirp, saw the sun come up, felt the early coolness of the day - all while enjoying a Pecan-Peach Coffee Smoothie. Everything together made the moment scream, "Summer is here!!". Do you remember those carefree days of summer as a kid? It took me back to those days - what a fun feeling!

Since I can't keep anything a secret, let me share with you how to make this fruity concoction!

First, 2 cups of ice cream. I chose vanilla to keep it simple.

 Next, 2 cups of peaches. I am pretty sure that the two cups of peaches will cancel out any fat that is in the ice cream. Right? ;)

Then, add 3/4 cup International Delight Iced Coffee Vanilla flavor and 1/4 cup International Delight Southern Butter Pecan coffee creamer.

Blend all ingredients until fully mixed.

It was like having a dessert drink before sunrise, which may not be healthy - but it certainly ranked high on the delicious scale. It made my husband and I feel like two little kids ready for their summer day. Sometimes you have step out the box, or else you won't know what you are missing. But, ice cream in the morning?? The Coffee Creamer Queen says it's ok, as long as coffee creamer is involved. ;)

International Delight has a variety of fun flavors to inspire your inner culinary-genius, make sure to check them out online:

Also, between June 21st and July 4th, International Delight will be giving away 1,000 free cartons of their Iced Coffee everyday! Very cool, and if you win, I just ask that you have me over for a cup of coffee. ;) Check out their Sweepstakes Page on Facebook for more details. Good luck!

Decorating for Christmas is a huge thing at our house. By the time Halloween is done I am just itchin’ to get those Christmas bins down and start the decorating. We love decorating for Christmas so much that it is what we do every year for our Anniversary; we buy each other Christmas decorations and decorate. Our Anniversary is at the end of November, so it is the perfect time to put up the holiday cheer! May sound crazy to some, but it is perfect for us. This year was no exception, all of our lights and decorations were put up by the 1st of December – in and outdoors. I was just telling my husband last night that I could leave up the Christmas decorations all year long but I probably shouldn’t… probably. Haha

Our Christmas Tree this year

I was recently given the opportunity to check out the Holiday decorations that Kmart has to offer, I was totally game! I had not yet been to Kmart since the holiday season started so I was excited to see what was new for the holidays. Check out our trip to Kmart here on Google+.There was so much Chrsitmas decor to choose from. From ornaments to wreaths to snowglobes to dancing Santas.There was so much to pick from it was hard choosing...

And more...

 Even more!

So what did we decide on?

Our first Christmas village! Check out next week to see how we decorate with it!!

Pumpkin Soy Shakes

I was recently offered the opportunity to try Silk Soy Milk from Sam’s Club (check out our shopping trip here) and although I have tried Soy Milk a few times, it is definitely not a staple in our home. We are HUGE milk drinkers, I am talking about 1 gallon every 2 days – we are usually buying so much milk that another milk option is not on our grocery list.

I found these in the deli section of Sam's Club.
Yes, yes and yes.

Due to my stockpile of pumpkin left over from Halloween and Thanksgiving I knew that I wanted to make some Pumpkin Soy Milkshakes. All I needed was the Soy Milk, so we packed up the kids in the car and headed off to our favorite Sam’s Club.

Festive food serving items. So cute!

Sam’s Club is one of my favorite stores to go to during the holidays. Not because of the crowds, but because of the awesome selection of holiday items. From decorations to kids toys to edible gifts to seasonal food – there is so much that almost anyone could find something they like. I found a lot. ;)

For the Tequila and/or Gun enthusiasts in your life!

Pumpkin Soy Shakes
Ingredients
1 cup pumpkin puree
1 1/3 cup Silk Soy Milk
¼ teaspoon nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
2 cups of ice (or more if needed)

Directions
1. Put all ingredients in blender .
2. Blend
3. Enjoy!

Iced Tea

Today is National Iced Tea Day, and I could not let it pass without paying a little tribute. I had a bag of Pluff Iced Tea from my Foodzie box last month, and I figured today was the perfect day to use it! The flavor was Broken Orange Pekoe, which is a black tea – my favorite. Yay!

I have to admit that I had never made Iced Tea before today, and considering how easy it is, I can’t believe I am not a regular Iced Tea drinker. Let me share with you how to make Iced Tea, just in case you have been living in a hole like me. :)

1. Boil 1 quart (4 cups) cold water
2. Put your teabag(s) in pitcher and pour in boiling water
3. Let steep for 5 minutes. Remove teabag(s)
4. If adding sweetener, you will want to add it now and stir
5. Add 1 quart (4 cups) cold water
6. Pour immediately over ice and enjoy!

I love this picture of Bubba taking the tea. He is a little food monster. :)
