Using Ocean Naturals Canned Tuna, as part of a sponsored post for Collective Bias®, I made Open-Faced Tuna Burgers with Lemon-Garlic Cream Sauce for a healthy dinner. #OceanNaturals

My husband and I love hamburgers - I'm talking LOVE here. From the melted, gooey cheese to the crisp bacon to the big doughy buns, and not to leave anything out - there is always mayonnaise involved. However, that is not a healthy meal choice and the two of us know that big, greasy burgers can't be a regular on our meal plan. We need something lower in calories and fat without sacrificing the protein. So, what's a girl to do? I'll tell ya - she gets inspired and creates a healthy dinner with naturally delicious ingredients. That is exactly how these Open-Faced Tuna Burgers with Lemon-Garlic Cream Sauce came about - and they do not disappoint!

Have you ever heard of Skipjack Tuna? How about Ocean Naturals canned tuna?

If this is the first time you have ever heard of Skipjack Tuna, you are only about a week behind me - so don't feel like your in the dark here! Skipjack is a light tuna as opposed to Albacore which is a white tuna. {I really thought all tuna in a can was Albacore. Oh, silly me!} Skipjack live in the Western and Central Pacific Ocean, in fact you can see where each can, Skipjack or Albacore, of Ocean Naturals Canned Tuna was harvested by either scanning the QR code on each package or visiting http://oceannaturals.com/my-tuna/ and entering a code printed on the bottom of each can. The Skipjack canned tuna I purchased was harvested in the Pacific near Australia by a vessel named Cape Cod captained by Louis Machado. The vessel flag was United States in case you were wondering. ;) Pretty neat to find all that out, huh? I thought it was pretty cool and had to show my kiddos where our dinner was coming from, which I have never done with canned tuna before.

While on their site, scoping out where our dinner came from, I also learned that Ocean Naturals Skipjack is caught without the aid of fish aggregating devices (FADs) on purse seine vessels. In other words, they are caught in natural environments with big nets. Not using FADs avoids unwanted and untargeted species from ending up in those nets - which is a good thing for the ocean, me and you! Then I wanted to see how their Albacore is caught - would you believe it if I told you they were caught ONE AT A TIME, by pole and troll. I was a little shocked at first, but it completely shows their commitment to not leaving an environmental footprint by eliminating bycatch.

I am in love with Ocean Naturals, seriously. It's Good, Good for You, Good for the Planet. I never thought about which brand of tuna I bought, it was just grab and go - but my relationship with canned tuna has forever changed. Definitely for the better!

Alright, let's talk about those Open-Faced Tuna Burgers with Lemon-Garlic Cream Sauce. These will knock your socks off! My husband has even mentioned a couple times since I made them that he really liked them, which means this is a winner, winner tuna dinner. ;) The burgers are good cold and good warm, as is the sauce - but I wouldn't recommend re-heating them. It only takes one can of Skipjack Tuna to make two burgers, which means this was the least expensive dinner that I have cooked in a looooong time.

My only moment of doubt when making these was how soft they were and how they would fair on the grill. I placed the burgers on a sheet of wax paper and then flipped them onto the grill. Not sure if it would make a difference otherwise but this method worked wonderfully so I wanted to share it, just in case.
