What We Ate in Reno, NV {with 4 meals under $10!!}

Last weekend we {myself, Mr. Hungry Harps and a couple of our very best friends} headed over the Sierra Mountains to Reno, Nevada. We gambled, we drank, we got into some shenanigans and most importantly we ate - you know, to stay energized for the whole adventure. Check out these local(ish) gems we found and love!!

1. The Awful Awful Burger from The Nugget {not John Ascuaga's)
$7.99 for a 1/2lb Awful Awful Cheeseburger and 1lb of French Fries
The Nugget - 233 N Virginia Street in Reno, NV 89431

We were starving by the time we reached Reno and The Nugget was our first stop. This place is the definition of a hole in the wall, complete with no website. However, it's the kind of place I love. Non-assuming, a little dim and full of memories. Mr. Hungry Harps and I shared one of these burgers because we couldn't rationally order 2 pounds of fries and expect to finish them all. As it turned out - ordering one was perfect. We split the burger and the Mr. finished the fries off. I can't believe we ate this much food for 3.99 each! If you are all about a good deal - this is it. The burger tastes like the one you find on the bbq on Sunday evening and the fries are suprisingly awesome. I am in love and will keep going to this establishment for my Downtown Reno Burger Needs!

Camouflaged Early Times Kentucky Whiskey

Yeah, so I didn't drink any of this but couldn't help but sharing a picture of it. This is for all of my Undercover-Drinkers out there! haha {I may or may not have taken this photo at a Walmart...}

2. Peppy Chicken Pizza from Pizano's Pizza
 $22.99 for an Extra Large Peppy Chicken Pizza
Pizano's Pizza - 95 N Sierra St Reno, NV 89501

I can't lie - we get tired like all you other superheroes out there... So, we decided to get take-out pizza one night since we were tired and we love pizza. Ok, the part that's a little harder to admit is that we went back to one of our hotel rooms and disgustingly devoured this pizza. There was no shame in our actions and there was no pity taken on this poor pizza. The 4 of us annihilated this pizza and we would all do it over again in a heartbeat. The Peppy Chicken Pizza includes chicken, pepperoni, olives, mushrooms, mozzarella and pizanos sauce. After just one bite you want to cram the whole pizza in your face and not share it. Just the facts here folks, just the facts.

Chocolate Nugget Candy Factory

This was totally Mr. Hungry Harp's idea because he's trying to give me diabetes...

Assorted prices
Chocolate Nugget Candy Factory - 56 Nevada 341 Carson City, NV 89706

Ok, so you go into this place thinking your not going to come out alive, and then when you leave you are wondering how you came out alive. It's like your own Willy Wonka Chocolate Factory - novelty size. There are chocolate molded cars, squirrels, wrenches and golden nuggets. I saw fudges, cremes, taffies, nuts and SO much more - it would take all day to list them off. If you are in the nearby vicinity you need to check this place out. Check it out!! Our haul from the Chocolate Nugget included coffee creams, dark brownie creams and dark chocolate pecan patties. {the peanut butter & chocolate fudge didn't survive long enough to take pictures!} We were seriously Fat Bastards and should be ashamed of ourselves...

3. $1 Tacos from Mont Bleu
 99¢ tacos {chicken, pork and beef}, 99¢ margaritas, $6 pitchers of margaritas
Mont Bleu - 55 U.S. 50 Stateline, NV 89449

I know, I know - this is not in Reno. But it is just a short-ish jaunt and you can hit up the Chocolate Nugget on the way. I can't confirm this, but we may or may not have driven to Tahoe just to check out the tacos. The 99¢ tacos from Mont Bleu. Oh, and the 99¢ Margaritas - and the $6 pitchers of Margaritas. Yeah, that may have happened. Was it worth it? TOTALLY. And that totally is without any casino winnings. If you are in the area, you need these $1 tacos in your life. And the margaritas. The whole deal is just amazing. We ended up ordering more because we're pigs and can't get enough of delicious food. Try these. Yes.

4. Burgers from Steak 'n Shake
$4.99 Royale Steakburger
Steak 'n Shake - 1140 North Hills Boulevard Reno, NV 89506

So... one time my friend told me that Grand Sierra Resort had an amazing Pupu Platter for Room Service, but it turned out to be crap. So, instead he suggested this place - which scored him major, major brownie points. Mr. Hungry Harps ordered a Royale Steakburger and it definitely did not disappoint. The Royale is a Double Steakburger with melted American cheese, applewood smoke bacon, lettuce, vine-ripened tomato, and mayo. All topped by a delicious fried egg. Served with fries. Oh me oh my, I couldn't believe my eyes!!$4.99 for that awesome burger and fries. Their menu is amazing. I ordered the Bacon Horseradish Single and ended up wishing it was a double because of the amount of time it will be until I have another. :( That is a super sad face emoticon. Super sad.

And then we wrapped it up with these bad boys. Yeah, there is only 3 because I didn't get one. Me = Loser. Anyway, here we have the Chocolate Fudge Brownie, Very Berry Strawberry and a Salted Caramel Milkshake. I tasted Mr. Hungry Harp's Chocolate Fudge Brownie and it was habit-forming. While doing this post I found out that Steak 'n Shake offers a Snickers Peanut Butter Squared Milk Shake, which I would have ordered and finished grossly in a record amount of time. Oh well, next time - because this is a place worth going back to!!

It was a wonderful trip made even more wonderful by awesome company and delicious food. We are planning on going back at the end of August and I am so excited to find some more "cheap eats" in Reno - can't wait to share what we find in a pt.2 of this post!!
